OUR TRIBE | SUMMER HAIR TIPS WITH TRISH BHIKOO AT M11 STUDIO
Trish Bhikoo, Owner & Creative Director of M11 Studio is one of our most trusted sources when it comes to knowing what's going on in the world of hair and beauty.
As a trusted friend and long time fan of La Tribe, we caught up with Trish to find out more about her career in the fashion and beauty industry, her tips and tricks on maintaining the perfect summer locks and more.
La Tribe: You’re the Owner & Creative Director of M11 Studio and have worked within the New Zealand fashion industry for many years. Can you tell us a little bit about your journey with hair and fashion?
I have been hairdressing for 20 years now. It’s all I’ve ever known and still absolutely love it! Over the years I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside some of NZ’s best hair stylists, worked on numerous fashion shows and done a fair amount of editorial work. The last 8 years I have focused on training young hairdressers – I find it truly inspiring to develop fresh talent. My most recent adventure has been M11 Studio that my husband and I opened almost 5 years ago. Owning your own business definitely comes with its challenges but it has been a rewarding and exciting journey so far.
Trish, there are fond memories amongst the La Tribe team of you being one of our first and longtime customers. What is it about La Tribe that appeals to you?
Some of La Tribe’s first season shoes are still my go-tos and absolute favourites! La Tribe’s luxury, comfort and fresh approach to fashion appeals to me most.
The M11 team have been working with La Tribe on our shoots for years and we thank you so much for your support. How do you see the role of the hair team when working on shoots?
The M11 team get super excited when asked to style for a La Tribe shoot! Our role is to support the La Tribe team’s shoot process and to create beautiful hair that complements their aesthetic for that season.
You recently had a beautiful baby girl. Given our SS20 collection Homecoming is about being bold and free spirited, how do you hope you daughter will be bold and free spirited when she grows up?
We can only hope we raise her with the independence and confidence she needs to be herself and follow her passions and dreams in her own way.
The La Tribe woman is an adventurer at heart. What is your ideal adventure?
I feel like every day is an adventure with my baby girl! I do love spontaneous travel and the adventure that brings.
How would you describe your personal style?
I get asked this a lot and honestly my style is quite simple. I love mixing vintage pieces with classic staples like jeans and blazers, always paired with a great pair of shoes.
Who or what inspires you?
Little things inspire me the most. I feel inspired when sharing my knowledge and passion with others. Plus of course my family and friends constantly inspire me.
Who is your hair icon?
What are your top 3 picks from our Homecoming SS20 collection?
I’m loving the Twisted Moulded Slide for a summer essential look, the Twisted Mule for an elevated but still laidback look for summer parties, and the Thin Strap Heel for something a little more playful.
What is your go-to summer hair look?
I have naturally wavy hair so either I let it build up with salt from the sea so that the longer I leave it the more wave and volume it gets, or I go for a classic center part with a low knot.
With long days in the sun and surf approaching, what products will you be reaching for to keep your locks in check?
Iles 3 step system is a summer essential for me. It’s a light and nourishing shampoo, conditioner and serum that’s tames your hair without weighing it down. I would also recommend the SP Solar Sun Oil. It protects your hair from UV rays while leaving it soft and frizz free.
