Retailer Profiles | Father Rabbit, Auckland

From the brand's inception, we have continued to work closely and grow with the help and support of our retailers. Each with their own unique vision and approach to curating an interesting offering.

From high end fashion boutiques, to owner operated destinations, La Tribe finds home in a variety of beautiful spaces throughout Australia and New Zealand. In this series, we sat down with the people and faces behind these beautiful stores, to hear more about their vision.

Father Rabbit is the alter ego of Claudia Zinzan and husband Nick Hutchinson. The brand was created when they had their first son and Claudia was taking some time our of her career as an interior designer.

They launched the Father Rabbit online store over ten years ago and the business has continued to grow into a household name for all lovers of simple home necessities.

Father Rabbit offers a concise range of simple, functional and thoughtful products that compliment a busy household. Offering moments of serenity throughout the day, alongside the homeware offering Father Rabbit has also captured a considered edit of fashion brands both locally and internationally and have been a long-time supporter of La Tribe.

We caught up with Claudia Zinzan, Founder & Director to find out more.

Tell us a little more about where you are located and what you love about the area?

You’ll find Father Rabbit stores in the Auckland neighbourhoods of Herne Bay, Mt Eden, Orakei Bay, and Father Rabbit Select in Newmarket. La Tribe is stocked at both our Mt Eden and Orakei Bay stores. Each is set within a unique landscape, situated within bustling shopping precincts, surrounded by galleries and fantastic cafes. We love how all of our stores feel quite different from each other by catering to their local community.

What is the inspiration behind Father Rabbit?

Father Rabbit stores present a carefully curated selection of products that are practical and pleasing in both form and function. There’s an underlying sense of quality and timelessness, they’re tried and true. We want our stores to have a boutique department store feeling - where you can shop premium homewares, kitchen essentials, gifts, clothes, and accessories, all in one place. Father Rabbit believes that things should be done right, or not at all.

We’re not about grand gestures, instead, we focus on elevating those everyday tasks.

Embracing the simple pleasures of a well-made bed (with ironed pillowcases), or completing a bathroom clean with freshly cut flowers.

Tell us more about the process of curating brands and styles in your boutique, do you reflect and refine each season?

We encourage our customers to buy less and buy well. You won’t see trend-driven palettes or garments that lend to one occasion at Father Rabbit. Instead, we are committed to offering seasonless items of heightened functionality. Our selection of brands transcend seasons and are chosen with the intention that they will be worn and loved for years to come.

How does La Tribe align with your own brand values?

Like other brands we hero at Father Rabbit, La Tribe offers everyday luxury. Designed with functionality and longevity in mind, La Tribe footwear has a place in everyone's wardrobe. As a bestseller from day one at Father Rabbit, we knew it was a match made in heaven.

What do you and your customers love most about La Tribe?

We (and our customers) love La Tribe’s classic, contemporary designs. A La Tribe shoe is recognisable but in an unassuming way. The muted colour palette fits seamlessly within our collections, and they also pair back with every wardrobe.

La Tribe’s commitment to designing for the wearer is reflected with their most adored styles being repeated each season. Like us, once La Tribe do it right, they don’t look to the next trend.

What is your favourite style this season and how will you wear them?

The Pistol Boot is my go-to when I’m out. They hold year-round relevance, easily paired with denim and cashmere for winter, or in summer the low ankle boot looks great with a maxi dress. Handcrafted from the softest calf leather, its square toe offers a unique silhouette.

When I’m at home on the weekend, I live in my Sheepy Slippers. Name a more comfortable shoe!
